SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. SMART Recovery helps people manage any addiction or bad habit. It incorporates Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques, and is based in the Stages of Change model. It is different from the AA/NA model of recovery in that there are no sponsors, no Higher Power, and no "steps". The idea is that you have your own journey with recovery and will use the stories/lessons from fellow participants and the tools that work for you to help you through your recovery journey. There are SMART meetings all over the country and all over the world, in person and virtual. They are free, there is no registration, no insurance; people can drop into any meeting. SMART does also offer meetings to loved ones, called SMART Recovery Family and Friends meetings. For more information, go to smartrecovery.org
